Browncoat: Redemption call for extras
Browncoat fan movie (it looks like it’s going to be bigger and better than “fan movie” implies) is looking for extras. Details here.

The head honchos for this year’s Can’t Stop the Serenity are opening up the art contest voting to everyone, not just registered organizers. The submission were just too gorgeous to keep themselves.
If you’d like to vote for your favorite logo/t-shirt design, you can do so here. Only one vote per person should be possible, and the results are hidden until voting is over on March 12th, so as not to sway the results toward the most popular.
If you’re a Browncoat, go look – you’re going to be wearing one of these on a shirt soon, because I KNOW you’ll all be going to Can’t Stop The Serenity this year!
ETA: Like 90% of the people I’ve talked to, I voted for #3. Don’t let me sway you, though!
“Kinzey-Lindsay likes Ben Franklin and Benjamin Banneker and Martin Luther King Jr. and John Adams.”
Well, you can’t fault Kinzey-Lindsay’s taste.
Yesterday’s snow day threw off the Jayne hat schedule. Today I have two hats to ship to New Jersey, another to finish for Illinois, and two kits to pack up for Colorado and Finland. It’ll be a busy morning.
Let’s close with a little wackiness. “Today is a good day to hand over all your cash!”
Qapla’!
Turned the first heel on my daughter’s Valentine’s Day socks. It’s an eye of partridge stitch on the back, reinforced with wool/nylon thread. Hopefully these won’t wear through as fast. They’re going to be murder to darn. She seems fine with store bought holiday-themed socks, so I’m going to ply her with those so she won’t want to wear these every day. I hope.
These socks are going on the back burner now as I plow ahead on the Jayne hat line. I want to get back ahead of the curve. A very nice woman just ordered enough hats for everybody in her Browncoat family, including toddlers. They’re for Christmas photos for this coming year. I may have to insist on being on her Christmas card list, because that sounds awesome.
I should really put up a Jayne hat gallery at some point. There are some stellar pics that really should be shared. Today’s favorite: halfway down on this page. Heh.
Fishwatch 2009: Day 2 – fish still alive.
Been trying to eat healthier recently, and it’s paid off. I finally moved lower than my previous weight plateau. The weight isn’t really going to start moving again until the weather improves and I can get out and run more reliably, but it’s still encouraging.
Last night, curious and maybe fishing:
Me: Are socks that I make for you more special than ones you get from the store?
Em: Well… I like them both. Both socks you make me and socks from the store are nice.
She is nothing if not honest. Okay, then I know a little girl who’s getting a bunch of socks from the $1 bin at Target so that these last longer.
This morning I prepare more packing materials. I’ve got two more Jayne hats ready to go out (Austin and Australia) that need cool boxes. But first, a little wii running. It’s rainy and cold, but I feel like moving my feet.
Thanks to the new camera (and, by extension, my husband) I have a decent picture of the acrylic version of the Jayne hat. It’s a good option for those allergic to wool. This one is going to Texas.
I need to work on my setup. This gave a good result, but the setup was on the floor facing an open door. In that situation, it’s very hard to look through the viewfinder and compose properly.
Mr. Tvini has taken Em to the mall for a bit so I have time to stamp boxes and get a few things done. Whew. I needed a break.
The list proceeds apace. At this point, everybody who was promised a hat by Christmas has had theirs mailed to them, and now I’m working on the people from mid-November who I told might get theirs by Christmas. That’s a good feeling.
Unfortunately, I’m still having to turn kit orders away. I have enough earflap red for my current finished hat customers, but not enough to supply everyone who wants a kit. I’m still waiting for a big shipment from the mill. I placed this order in July and they’ve only just spun up the color that I need. They spin each color a couple of times a year, and while I still had plenty in July and thought it would carry me through, I thought they’d be spinning more in October. Apparently I misjudged. I’ve been getting skeins piecemeal from other suppliers.
The last word from the mill was that they spun it late last week and shipped it, but it went to the wrong address. They say it should arrive today. We all know what the mail is like around Christmas, so I’m not counting my yarn cones until they’re hatched.
All I want is 6000 yards of earflap red yarn. Is that so wrong?
ETA: later this day, my red came in. Yay!
Here we are, bright eyed and bushy tailed. Team Lassiter! We’ve boarded the train and are ready to go! At the very first station, however, we make a misstep. The early stations only have one or two items to get, but we opted to get off and try for them anyway. This was a crucial mistake, points-wise, as it meant we’d be late getting to the meaty stations uptown that had quite a few photos for more points. Eh, whatever, we were there to have fun.
The other thing that got us, points-wise, was that we went out of our way to take creative but more time-consuming pictures. Apparently some of the other teams took pictures without ever getting off the train which honestly never occurred to us. It kind of felt like if we were going to be taking the picture, we should get up and go take the picture. That’s not to disparage the other teams, understand, but this was our particular mindset. As a result, we lost time by doing things like the picture to the right. If you’re going to take a picture of an upside down Italian, then clearly you need an upside down team member.
However, I do not consider this to be a bad thing. We had a fantastic team, and we had a fantastic time. I’m pleased with our “quality over quantity” approach to the photos.
So how’d we do? Team Lassiter took third place out of three teams competing. Here’s our prize: The Thoroughbred of Sin. It was hard to eat with that horrible death whinny.
This was a blast. I would absolutely do this again.
