And lo, from the soysilk of Tyrathia emerges a blue scarf. (CD for scale.) It’s posted actual size because I’m trying to decide whether it’s too wide or not. Hmm.
By the way, “Lacey Funn” is totally going to be my stripper name if I ever have one.
Just remembered, I never posted this here: a baby blanket for a very dear friend who is having a baby. Say it with me: Awwwww. The pattern called for all the sheep to be the same, but I wanted them all different. My husband pointed out that the black sheep is off in its own little corner, like that section is blocked off for “undesirable sheep.” I told him not to read too much into it, it’s not a cultural statement. Besides, that’s where it is in the pattern. And they’re sheep, darnit, quit tweaking me! Baaaaaaa!
After I got the dinosaur hat off my plate, I was able to complete a scarf that was going to be for wearwithstyle.com that was *this* close to being done. It only needed three more rows and some fringe.
Here it is. It’s long and funky; it hangs down to my knees. Unfortunately, the pic doesn’t show the sheen of the ribbon yarn.
This pic shows the sheen, but a little too much. The yarn is Colinette Giotto, which is matte on one half along the length and shiny on the other half. Picture it as being almost as shiny as picture two. Here’s a closeup to better show the structure.
This is a nice handpainted yarn, and rather expensive. I knew I wanted to try knitting with it because it looks so nice on the skein. A nice open scarf seemed ideal.
Overall, when I was mostly done, it just confirmed what I already knew – I prefer to work with wool and other animal fibers. It’s just easier on the fingers, as it has more elasticity.
On to other half-finished projects – knitting and otherwise.
Because I have to look on the bright side of everything, I am focusing on the fact that having to sit in a room with my sleeping daughter and be on “vomit patrol” gave me time to finish up the scarf my mom wanted. She picked out Berocco Optik and said “can you make me a scarf with this? But I don’t want it to look knitted.”
Ooookay.
Anyway, it’s done! Finally, I can get on to all the other projects backed up! Whee!
On a side note, I have noticed that each of the two times (both rather recently) my daughter has gotten very sick to her stomach, it has been the morning after a very long tub bath. I disinfected the tub pretty well last time, having suspected her of drinking tub water when I wasn’t looking, but now I am even more suspicious of a link. I think we may have a germy tub toy. Yuck.
Scarf! Focus on the scarfy positivity!
Stash busting continues! I’ve knitted up a new scarf. This one’s in Berroco Chinchilla Bulky with a fringe of Berroco Glace. It’s soooo soft! You can’t see in the picture, but it’s knitted in mistake rib, so there’s a nice wavy texture running the length of it. Here’s a close up so you can get a better idea of the feel of the yarns. I’m going to dab the ends of the fringe with a little fray-check just to be sure they stay nice and crisp.
I like it. Classy, but my husband says the long fringe gives it kind of a 60’s feel. I wasn’t going for that, but I reckon I’ll take it. 🙂
When I visited with Ceosanna and Tessima in Maryland in August, Tessima very kindly bought a ball of yarn and told me to make something for my daughter with it. And so I have! She wouldn’t stop jamming pizza into her maw long enough to pose with it, but she does like it.
Knitters, it’s pretty simple. On #11’s, I cast on 48, purled, knit, purled, decreased to 24, purled, decreased to 12, knit in stockinette for a long time, then at the other end increased to 24, purled, increased to 48, purled, and bound off.
My daughter knows who got the yarn, and, in her own way, is grateful. Thank you, Tessima!

So I’m working through my stash with an eye toward making sellable things.
So the question is, what do you think of this color combination? I *think* I like it, but I also keep thinking, “it’s like if Oscar the Grouch went to Mardi Gras.”
Opinions?

Have no money. Am selling off possessions on eBay. No, really.
So why, why did I go into a yarn store? It was madness! Madness, I say!
Walked out with one skein of Colinette Tagliatelli.
Am now on severe yarn diet. Also, severe food diet if credit card gets declined. Whimper.
ETA: On the up side, I am fortunate to have kind friends like Tessima, who sent me the yarn I used to make this soft and funky firecracker scarf. Thanks, Tessima!

Sometimes, the best thing you can do when you’re down in the dumps, or when you have fifty bazillion unfinished projects going on, is to make something cool. And so, I did!
When I was in St. Louis, I stopped by a yarn store (of course) and picked up some Crystal Palace Waikiki color 2852 and Squiggle in “shell”. I started a scarf, and kept it in the car seat beside me to work on when I got stuck in traffic. I finally decided I just needed to finish it, already. Here’s the result on. Here’s one a little closer up, and here’s the UNNECESSARY ZOOOOOOOM!
Ahem. Sorry.
I really enjoyed this! That Squiggle is fun stuff, nice and soft and shaggy and… well, squiggly. If they harvested Tribbles for their fur, this is what the result would be. (Actually, maybe they do.) I like the little poofs the yarn has, and the bit of shine that the Waikiki imparts. The scarf may have a little of that 70’s shag carpet tone to it, but who cares? It was fun, and I’d definitely make another Squiggle scarf in a heartbeat.
And now, on to those fifty bazillion unfinished projects!
Okay, I totally can’t remember this girl’s name, but she was so cute and was so nice to pose for me I just had to post it. This is the scarf I knit mainly during the keynote speech at Simucon (I was listening! I swear!) and some during the evening afterward. I was so glad she got it, because a) it was the cheapest thing on the table, b) she snapped it up when several had been mulling it over, and c) it just looks so right on her!
You go with your fashion-diva self, girl!
On a side note, Iocanthe. Hee! Faaaabulous, darling!
