Amazon, you suck.
After reading
I’m still waiting for eleven books I ordered on the 16th. They’re part of a larger order that was split into three shipments, which is fine. Hey, that means they’re trying to get it all out of the door as quickly as they can, right? Well, two shipments have arrived. According to my account, the third is still waiting. In what world does “two day delivery” mean “waiting to be shipped six days later?” And according to the info at the top of the account, it can’t be cancelled, it can only be returned. Which makes zero sense to me if it’s still physically sitting on their property. I would have HAPPILY removed whatever one book is holding it up immediately had I realized, but it’s damn hard to see what part is gumming up the works, so how the hell was I supposed to figure that out?
All I know is that I’m short eleven children’s books, and I leave town to meet those children tomorrow morning. Which means I have to go to my local bookstore and brave the crowds tonight, buying the exact same books I’ve already paid for.
Can only be returned? Damn right it’ll be returned. And neither I nor my Amazon.com credit card will darken their door again.
Make sure you pick one of the options when you return them that makes them pay for shipping. I did notice that “You completely screwed up my order” isn’t on that list.

You know what really sucks? Working at the Amazon warehouse. Worst four days of my life.

Heh. Okay, “never darken their door again” is a bit of an exaggeration on my part. But I’m definitely miffed.
10:38 at night and I JUST got done shopping for the kids’ presents. Looks like a slow holiday shopping season, so I got in and out fairly quickly, thank goodness for me.

Was it Amazon itself or one of their featured sellers? I had a problem with one of them a few months ago.

Oh, UGH. I think I posted my tale of woe about them last week or so. I’m pretty much done using them now; there are too many other online retailers that want my money.

It was actually Amazon. I specifically made sure everything I got was from them so that there wouldn’t be a holdup with the shipping from different locations.
That worked out swell, eh?

Considering the dopes who I worked with I’m surprised anything gets shipped properly out of there.

I ordered a Willy Wonka book last summer as an anniversary gift for my husband who’d lost his copy (loaned and never returned). It said delivery was supposed to be in a couple of weeks so it *should* have arrived on time (August 2nd). On the first I got worried and logged in to check on it, and it was suddenly listed as backordered. The ship date kept getting pushed back, I offered to get him something else but he claimed he wasn’t in a hurry so we waited. It finally arrived a couple of days before Halloween.

I too had my stuff shipped in three separate orders, and one was supposedly going to be late because of some supply error (?), but they said it shipped today. We’ve actually had better-than-expected results with their shipping in the past, like ordering one morning and getting it a day or so later.
We try to buy most of our stuff local anyways, so it’s not that big a deal, but we do like the wish lists. (I’m not trying to get on a soapbox– my dad’s the chair of the Buy Local Initiative, but sometimes his idea that “just buying local is enough” gets him into trouble. Like last year, when he bought my husband a gift card for the local feminist bookstore/coffee house. And my husband mainly reads “history of science” books, and doesn’t drink coffee, and is quite male.)

Hee hee! I’m usually a big “buy local” booster, especially since some of my friends once owned a used bookstore here in town. But this year I was incredibly busy. Normally I’ve got the kid presents done a good month in advance, and a lot of thought goes into them. This year, thought went into them – I tried to tailor the American Library Association prize winning books to the kid – but it was time that was short.
In fairness to Amazon, ordering less than two weeks before Christmas is always going to be a Bad Idea. But still. I paid extra for two day shipping for this?
