Setbacks
I had some Lamb’s Pride in Brite Blue left over from a recent Coronet, and it looked like just enough to make the band of another one for a friend. I figured if I just did the band in the scraps, it wouldn’t matter so much if the body was in a different ball, because it might look intentional for it to look slightly different.
It was not. The pattern calls for 16 repeats of the cable pattern, and I got to 14 and then had to add in a new skein of Brite Blue. It wasn’t a close enough match. At some angles, it looks perfect, but at others the new yarn is noticeably lighter and more silvery. So now I gotta start over. Le sigh.
My husband brews beer. He’s apparently quite good at it, too. I wouldn’t know, since all beer tastes the same to me – horrible.
Well, after many years of successful, or at least non-hazardous, bottling, he finally overcarbonated one. He knew this was the case and that he’d have to dispose of the whole batch. While I was still asleep this morning, he opened one in the sink, downard. The bottle cap hit the bottom of the sink, rocketed up and hit the ceiling, and the beer in the bottle essentially exploded all over the walls and ceiling of our kitchen.
Now our home smells like a honky-tonk, and we are very aware that we have a closet full of beer bombs just waiting to explode on us. Literally, because the pressure could burst the glass bottles. The hubby has some cooling in the fridge now, which he says will relieve the pressure a bit. If you hear about a couple killed in a freak beer accident, you’ll know what happened.
My mother volunteered to watch our daughter for a while today. This is good, because the grownups in this house both needed some grownup time in a big, big way. Plus it’s Spring break, which means being all mom, all the time. To paraphrase Homer Simpson, all mom and no play make Tvini something something.
Problem? Said daughter seems sick. She’s coughing, and sometimes she’s high energy but other times she’s very low. So now we have to decide whether to go ahead with this, and risk our daughter being unhappy and feeling bad, or to cancel and risk us being unhappy and feeling bad. We are holding out hope that she’ll improve a bit and we can go ahead with the transfer. Keep your fingers crossed.
I will tell you a variant of what you told me back when Satan was born:
You’re only human, take the time for yourselves — everyone will benefit from it in the end.
(hugs)

Big big hugs.
Echoing the advice to take some time for yourselves, even if the plans need to be modified a bit.
Good luck with the beer. Maybe dispose of the batch while wearing a safety helmet and goggles? (I’m only half joking…)

Man, do I ever sympathise with the beer thing. My father went through a mead-brewing period, bottling the first couple of batches in these really neat bottles… that were squared.
This is how we learned the hard way that you don’t want to deal with fermentation in squared things. Pressure gets bottlenecked in the corners or something. FWOOM! It smelled like a frat party in a bakery.
I personally think that with your mom there to keep your daughter’s spirits up, you could probably still have fun. Hope it works out in the best way for you.
