Farewell, Nerys.
I’m sorry to report that our cat, Nerys, passed away last night.
I came home last night at about 7. Shortly after that, the cat started to dry heave. I followed her around to be sure she was okay. She was rather shaky on her feet. I took her to the vet, who wanted to watch her for 72 hours. Their initial thought was a stroke, since they spotted a blood clot behind one of her eyes.
I got a call from the vet at about 2am saying that she’d had a seizure and asking for our permission to treat things more aggressively, which I gave. But apparently it was all downhill from there, and Nerys passed away at about 4am this morning. We’re still waiting for a full report, but right now it appears that she had renal failure which led to hypertension which led to seizures. She may also have had a brain tumor or some kind of lymphoma, but we don’t really know yet.
The vet did everything she could, but to no avail. It seems pretty clear that it was just Nerys’s time to go, and that even if they’d been able to revive her, her quality of life for her remaining six months or so would have been unacceptable. She was 17 years old and had lived a good life.
Oh, I am so sorry.
*hugs!* I’m sorry for your loss. 🙁
But I have to say one thing — I didn’t know your cat’s name before and my friend is currently raising a puppy for Fidelco and she’s also a Nerys. (She usually names her puppies after Star Trek characters.)
We used to run a BBS in the days before the internet. We held an informal contest among the users to name her. “Nerys” narrowly beat out “Zanzibar” and we were all grateful for that.
Sorry to hear about your kitty. She was lucky to have you.
I’m so sorry you lost your kitty. Such a beautiful cat too. I love the kitty ball picture. 17 is a long time but not enough. Mine was almost 21 and it wasn’t enough. But Spike’s waiting to show Nerys all the good mousing spots.
Aww 🙁
Oh no! I am so sorry. I always loved reading stories about her eating something important or getting into the washer. I’m glad she lived such a long, happy life.
your cat
I am so sorry you cat is gone. I know how difficult this can be.
I am so so sorry.
I’m sorry. 🙁
Oh no!
I am so sorry for your loss, especially in winter when a warm little snuggle is just right. But there’s really no good time to lose such a good friend.
Peace and best wishes to all of you as she goes on her way.
I’m sorry to hear!
Oh my God. I’m so sorry. She was such a sweet cat. I understand if you’d rather not worry about my boys while I’m gone. I can ask JP to do it instead. He’ll be in town. Let me know.
