No juice and no TV make Em something something.

Em had a writing assignment in school today. I think she was supposed to write what she did this weekend. Here’s what she wrote.

We watched TV all day. My mom asked me if I wanted to do anything, but I said no! to evering. I didn’t move around like everybody should. I fell asleep because I got tired. I stayed at home all day.

And now no doubt we look like terrible parents who park our kid in front of the TV all day.

But she didn’t fall asleep during the day, she fell asleep at bedtime. And she did say she wanted to do something, she decided to come with me to a Browncoat video shoot on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, as she put it, “this was not what I was expecting.” It was significantly more waiting around in a hotel lobby than she could be expected to gracefully put up with, so I took her back home to hang out with her father. She also went with him to get doughnuts on Sunday, and to the toy store and several hardware stores while he struggled in vain to fix our leaky sink. She even got popcorn at one of the stores.

Also she did move around. She even had swimming lessons on Saturday morning.

I think she was probably just in a bit of a mopey mood when she was writing, so she just wrote what came to her mind about the weekend without reflecting. Oh well. Hopefully the teacher will get to know us this year and we can correct first impressions.

As for that sink, the plumber is coming tomorrow afternoon to fix it, since it has moved from “slight leak” to “mostly disassembled.” It happens. When the pipes are 40+ years old, they break. No blame to my husband, it’s just time to bring in a professional.

snicker, snort, giggle, it seems Emily is already perfecting saying ‘Nothing’ when asked what she’s doing or did do….lol. Way to go Emily! She’s a preteen!

Poor mom, don’t worry, I doubt the teacher will think anything bad of you. You’re a wonderful mom and it shows in ways you don’t see. 🙂

Don’t feel bad. I’ve probably told you already about how, for an assignment on “What I like to do with my parents” at my high-end Quaker school, my response was, “My dad takes me to the liquor store.”

off topic, but what do you guys D&D on? Just a chat room?

Or at least I’m under the impression ya’ll do it online?

A buddy of mine is starting a 3.5 campaign (I’ve never played!) and he isn’t sure how to work it online.

We do forum RP, so if all else fails that’s where it’ll be.

We do it in a chat room. Personally, I use iChat on my Mac.

There’s a dice-rolling function built into some chat clients. You would type //roll-dice1-sides20 and that would randomly generate a result from rolling one twenty-sided die. //roll-dice2-sides10 would roll two ten-dided dice, etc. It’s nice because everyone can see the rolls.

ichat is basically AIM, yeah? Or rather, an AIM client?

I remember rolling from old school AOL RP days! lol

    Yep, AIM.

Just a note, I connect via Trillian, and am able to use the same features and such just fine.

It’s looking like my buddy isn’t going to run it chat wise, since we have international people that want to play.

I don’t see how it’d work very well over forums though. I’ve never played D&D before, but from what I’ve heard about it, it’s mostly about snap decisions!

It can definitely work, but sometimes in forums people have a little TOO much time to think and it gets all “Baldric heaved his mighty blade over his shoulder, chuckling at the barmaid’s assumptions as he thought of his insanely complicated backstory, which he would now lay out for her in excruciating details.”

Haha yeah! We do some forum RP as it is, but it’s from an old ass AOL storyline, so it makes sense for that.

But with the way our members are, they can be very lazy, so they’re going to take FOREVER to post, which means we get to wait FOREVER for them to post for the next person to be able to go, and so on.

I’d love to sit in and watch one of your guys’ games if you don’t mind. Like I said, I never played! Interested in learning it, though.
