Earthquake!

The reviews that said Masala Bhangra is not a low-impact workout were correct. This being Indian dance, there is also shoulder shrugging during all the moves, which is to be expected.

Put the bouncing and shrugging together, and I cannot stress enough the importance of a good sports bra while doing the workout. The twins were Bhangra-ing around a lot is all I’m sayin’.

Also, the workout needs a longer warm-up and especially cool-down, although of course you can do those on your own.

The instructor does not explain any moves, and only shows how to do them once at full speed before you are expected to do them in combination. It’s very dancey, which would be good for someone more coordinated in that way. For me, it was sink or swim. I swam for about 15 minutes, then fast forwarded to the cool-down. Then I rewound just a little bit to see what was near the end, and saw all the exercisers dancing in circles around an old guy in traditional dress banging a huge drum. I might have been hallucinating, but I don’t think so.

I’d do this workout again, but it’ll be a while before I’m up to doing the whole thing.

Also, I need a better sports bra. Possibly made of titanium.

Title9sports frog bra = best sports bra for large breasted women ever. It’s a smasher, but it’s the only sports bra I can wear single. Other brands I wear two, which is annoying.

Haha, I love how frank you are about this. That’s something great to see in ladies – you can be quite open about stuff like this without being crude.

Thanks for that, it made me laugh. And for what it’s worth I somewhat feel your pain – I don’t have the same problem, obviously, but everyone has bits that don’t like to fly round willy-nilly and get smacked about. Ahem.

Also, two thumbs up for the subject line.

    T!!!!!

Can we get a drink warning please! 🙂 Sounds like the Dance DvD I got with Paula Abdul.. I certainly don’t think some body parts were ment to move in certain combinations. The great thing about the Paula DVD was her two guy pals doing a version of YMCA at the end. That was sooooo worth it.

I have … well, let’s say “issues” with sports bras. I don’t LIKE having everything hiked up under my chin, and those straps pulling across my shoulders give me headaches. Anyway, I went to title9sports & looked around, and I may have to order one or three. ……..long pause while I ponder the sense in mail-ordering a sports bra when I’m the most unsportspersonlike person one could know…………..

Oh, and check out Abby. She’s lopsided! Makes me feel soooo much better!

    ::Smothers a giggle::

Ohh .. the ways in which I feel your pain! I have a belly dancing exercise tape that I’ve had to abandon for much the same reason. Just a bit to much hopping from one foot to the other for certain endouments to be at all pleased with the efforts.

I think I’ll stick with skating. I can at least put a bandage on my knee. ::snickers:: You are a brave soul. ::nods::

Oh goodness!! Yes, I bought one of those. But the twin ladies jiggling aren’t such a big issue for me since my peaks are more like tiny hills for me. 🙂

Mostly I gave up the belly dancing video because there’s just WAY too much coordination expected from me. After a few basic belly dancing moves practised for all of 2 minutes…BAM, i’m suddenly expected to be able to keep up to her jiggle, wiggle and hand flailing. What the heck?!

Tvin, have you tried yoga perhaps? I rather enjoy it and it doesn’t involve a lot of bouncing around, but it does seem to work me out quite a bit (if sweating lots and being out of breath counts). Maybe the stretching bits might be a bit much, but these two videos I got stressed the importance of not overdoing it and over time, I found I could stretch a BIT further than before.

I particularly enjoyed Barbara Currie’s yoga exercises because she doesn’t mystify the whole process (in fact she makes it seem like a real workout and not some mumbo-jumbo surreal eastern techniques), and breaks down most of the steps to simple moves. Plus she’s british and she gives me giggles everytime she tells me how this move “tightens and lifts your bum”.

I’m actually extremely limber, as is everyone on my mother’s side of the family. Lot of archers and gymnasts on that side. Even with my belly in the way, I can still touch my palms to the floor while standing straight-legged.

Sweating lots and being out of breath counts. I’ll check the yoga video out – especially after this last visit to the in-laws. My husband’s mom is a fantastic cook and always makes way too much food. Who are we to not eat it? I only wish she didn’t have so many mirrors, catching me unawares. It’s hardly a fair combination.
