Ohhh man. We have a similar program here, called e-tax. Luckily, it has a feature where you can save your progress every page of the way… Possibly the US tax department should have a chat with the A-US department!
But, my condolences. Tax is no fun, especially the second time.

Don’t know about the standalone version, but the online turbo tax saves each page as you finish it & go to the next one, so hopefully you’ll just have to redo the last page you entered.

It did not. In years past, it’s saved every few pages, but this time it saved once after I put in my “home business” stuff (thank God), then we got all the way through the 1099s and 1098s and stuff up to charitable deductions. I decided to take TurboTax’s advice and let the program take me out to http://www.itsdeductibleonline.com/ to calculate the value of my Goodwill donations, and when it tried to import the data back in… BOOM!
Fortunately, I already had all my records out, so it wasn’t that hard to do again. It was just… ugh. Needless to say, I just did my own personal estimate of what the stuff was worth the second time. I’d rather lowball it than live through another crash. Bleah.
Serves me right for doing it the day before taxes are due.

That’s what the standalone has done in years gone by, but apparently not this year. Would have been nice to know. Blech.

I use eSmart Tax to do my taxes, and my apartment building has free internet (but the provider resets your connection if you use it a lot). Usually I’m yelling, “NO CONNECTION! I must finish the taxes, connect to the internetz now.”

Oh, I forgot I knew someone with a home-based business!
Do you have to make a certain amount of money to -have- to file? (I know with personal if you make less than 3k/yr that you don’t have to, but I’m sure businesses are different.)
What all can you write off as a business expense? Everything other than product, or just certain things?
And what paperwork should I be saving? lol
I know nothing about any of this, but I’m starting up a small side-business from home, and don’t want to end up pitching something important that I should have saved.
