What we’re doing in Scouts tomorrow.
Hi, Brownie parents! Just a reminder that we’ve got a meeting scheduled for tomorrow.
There is a lunar eclipse tomorrow night, so it seems like a good time to work on our “Space Explorers” try-it. We’ll talk about the eclipse. It begins at 8:43 at night, but according to the Charlotte Observer today, “You might be able to notice when the moon enters the lighter penumbra portion of the shadow after 7:30pm.” My girl’s an “early to bed” type, but she’ll definitely be able to stay up for at least that.
We’ll also talk about why the moon looks like it changes shape, and also have a take-home sheet to use to observe and draw the shape of the moon as it appears on different weeks. Additionally, we’ll take an imaginary trip to the moon. One of our moms will be bringing thick ski gloves so we can see how hard it is to pick things up when you’re wearing a space suit. If anybody’s got one of those extendable claw grabby thingies, that’d be nice to have as well.
Our girls won’t be the first Girl Scout astronauts – other former Girl Scouts have gone into space, like Sally Ride and Mae Jemison. Our girls, will, however, be back from space by 5:30! I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!
That looks really awesome! It sounds like it’s going to be a fun night!
