Wednesday picture roundup!
Will this become a regular feature? We’ll see! I suppose it depends on whether I’m too lazy to make regular entries, but still energetic enough to make one actual post with content.
A mysterious box arrives on my doorstep Hmm. The last time I got a big mysterious box, it turned out to have the disembodied head of Jean Luc Picard in it. As it turns out, my luck holds! It’s not a decapitated Enterprise crew member, but it is five pounds of undyed Blue-faced Leicester roving! Yay! I had arranged to get this for a good price from a member of the
We arrange with my cousin for Emily to come ride a horse at my aunt’s stable. It’s Jonas Farms, it’s fantastic, and if you’re ever in Lincoln county or care to drive for about 45 minutes from Charlotte to ride, you should totally go. My cousins help run it, and they’ve been riding since before they could walk. Here, Diane leads Emily on Maple, perhaps the oldest horse in the history of horses. Emily is led although she’s ridden before, which strikes me as a good move since this her first time on a horse at this stable. I appreciate that they want to put safety first for both their students and their horses. Emily got to go through the obstacles and perform tasks like getting mail from a mailbox and closing a gate, pictured.
Unfortunately, it was 95 degrees on Saturday, they day we’d set up to do this. Emily was hot, Diane was hot, I was hot, and the horse was hot. Emily rode for less than half an hour, then she was done. Probably for the best. We’re going to set something up again for when it’s cooler. I really, really appreciated Diane being willing to do this, especially when it was such a scorcher out. She was so gracious, as always.
While we were out riding, Steve apparently was too. After talking about it for years, he finally decided today was the day and he bought a bike. A really nice bike. A really, really nice bike. I knew he’d been wanting to do this for a while, but I had been expecting something more in the “pawn shop” price range. However, that doesn’t matter. He’s riding it every day, he’s excited about it, he’s reading up on the internet, and I support him 100% in this. He’s been wanting to get in better shape, and this is clearly motivating him. His father rides a lot, so this’ll be something they can do together. Of course, his father’s in his 70’s and rides more than 20 miles at a stretch, so Steve’ll have a way to go to catch up. Well, it’s that much more motivation!
In turn, his motivation is motivating me, because I don’t want people to go “why is that hot, fit, studly guy with that doughy woman?” So I’m walking home from school after we drop Emily off every day. And I still have the 10-speed bike I won at age 12 in a drawing at Burger King, so maybe it’s time to dust that baby back off. I only wish we didn’t live on a road with such a gigantic hill in the middle of it.
Rayman Raving Rabbids! I finally twigged to the fact that you can, you know, rent video games and not have to shell out 50 bucks to find out whether you like them or not. This is good, because all we have are the same two games that came with our console and spare controller when we bought the wii. We do enjoy them, but there’s more out there we want to try. So, for about twelve bucks, we learned that we like this game. It’s very, very weird, and it makes good use of the wii remote. I’m going to be sorry to have to turn it back in.
Considering shades of red yarn. People do sometimes order Jayne hats in colors besides the traditional, and there’s a guy in line who’s looking to match Pantone 200. He’s just going to have to take it on faith that I’ve got as close as match as I can, because Lamb’s Pride red colors just don’t photograph well. Fortunately he’s an amiable guy, and of course I always do my best for my clients. It all works right out.
Today, a trip to the bead store – I’ve managed to misplace the dragonfly wings I bought, and a pair of earrings like the one at right is up in the queue. See, it’s not all Jayne hats! Just 95 percent! The line’s starting to creep back up as people order multiple hats for Christmas gifts, though, so that percentage may rise. Must… have… more… yarn!
Hats up for: MD and TN.

I’ve always really liked those earrings. I’d get some if I, you know, wore earrings.

It’s a GT Legato 3.0 I know nothing of bikes (haven’t been on one in about 20 years), but the guys at the shop said it was a good mid-range road bike, and I’m really enjoying it so far.

And this is why I’m glad that I’m not the type to trash-talk my spouse. Heh.
