skritch skritch skritch

Yesterday I pulled some poison ivy up, trying to make the back yard a little more kid-friendly. In spite of my precautions, I wound up with a patch on my arm.

MY GOD, THE ITCHING. MAKE IT STOP.

    Benadryl. And calamine lotion.

And for the sake of all things holy, whatever you do, DON’T go out there with a blowtorch and burn it. The oils become airborne, and if you breathe them in…

    it’s horrid.

    *runs away screaming*

Hubby has never ever had poison ivy. I grew up covered in it. It sucks, and he doesn’t understand why I’m so paranoid about it when we go traipsing through the woods. 😛

I react horribly to poison ivy. The only thing that ever brings me any relief is a clear gel called Caladryl. Its basicly a Calamine/Benadryl combo. It is soothingly cool, clear and you can apply it all you like.

Get some degree deodorant and label it ITCHY with a Sharpie. Apply to the poison ivy. It will help dry it up faster. Promise! When I got some in the bend of my knee this was one of the only things that would save me because it made the duration so much shorter.

I go with the clear Caladryl myself. And I had it last fall, so I know whereof you speak. Poor Tvini!
