Branching Out finally done!

Last night, I finally blocked Branching Out. Then I settled back for a lovely meal my husband had whipped up, butterflied chicken breasts stuffed with fontina cheese and prosciutto, covered in a lemon butter mushroom sauce, with a side of sauteed zucchini and yellow squash and some brown rice. Readers, if you’re still single, heed my advice: marry a man who can cook. It’s the best.

Aaaanywho, I was a little worried I’d blocked it too hard, but it seems to have turned out all right. It did give it some much-needed length.

Before: After:

Pattern: Branching Out from Knitty.com
Yarn: 1 skein Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool, 65% wool, 35% silk, 190 yds per skein, in “Denim”
Needles: #8US
Dimensions after blocking: 6.5″ wide, 68″ long.

The chart was easy to read. I like to finish an entire set of repeats before putting a project down, just so I always remember where I am instantly when I pick it up without having to look, and the repeats were short enough to accommodate that little habit of mine. For blocking, I used my standard method with scarves, running a length of cotton through the edge stitches and pinning it by that instead of the stitches themselves. It helps avoid points where the pins were.

All in all, I’m very pleased with how this turned out. Hopefully the recipient will be, too.

That turned out lovely! I’m wanting to make one of these (or possibly the simiar Liesel scarf pattern) for my mom for Christmas! I’ve never done lace before so hopefully I can do it. How did you like working with the silky wool? I have a million skeins of it for some reason (I just love the way it looks) but I’ve never actually worked with it yet. Does it feel nice and soft after blocking?

I love the way it looks, too! I have two other skeins in this same colorway. It looks casual yet sophisticated to my eye.

Blocking it did give it some nice drape and suppleness, but it still has a little bit of itch factor that a super-smooth yarn wouldn’t. Or maybe I’m just hyper-sensitive after working with Karabella Aurora 8. Regardless, I’d work with the yarn again.

It’s about damn time. What’s that make it, like a year or something? Sheesh. I would say “Stick to hats” but the scarf turned out too damn gorgeous. Nicely done.
