Double whammy
Today is not just Father’s Day, it’s also my mother’s birthday! It’s not every day you have a special holiday to celebrate TWO wonderful people in your life. So Happy Father’s Day AND Happy Birthday, Mom and Dad! I count myself lucky every day to have such great parents!
Best. Parents. Ever.
I LOVE YOU!!!
Last of the beach pics
Steve and Em on the caterpillar ride.
Em and me on the carousel. Just to prove I was really there.
We’re back, Steve with a headache and unhealed hand injury, Em with a tummyache and exhaustion, and me with a headache, exhaustion, and unexplained dizziness. Maybe from the last leg of the trip, which I rode as a passenger instead of a driver.
Anyway, we’re home again. We had a great time and are looking forward to next year.
Mini golf
It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game.
She is growing up, isn’t she? I will say that by the time we got to hole 13, she was starting to flag and complain about the heat a bit. She doesn’t do well in high temperatures. She knew she could stop at any point, which we’ve done in years gone by, but she chose to stick it out for the whole course. It had Tinkerbell and Peter Pan, so that probably helped.
Fortunately, it’s much cooler on the beach with the breeze, and after a pause to chill out and to eat some of the muffins we’d brought from home, she and Steve are out there splashing in the waves again. I am also taking a break. I may knit on the Cedar Creek socks I’ve cast on for (here’s Turtlegirl76’s gorgeous pair), or I may take a nap.
Last night as we were looking off the balcony, we spotted another little girl with long brown hair wearing the exact same swimsuit that Em has. We had to go down and look at her. There’s a longstanding joke in my family about how I have a twin sister whom my parents sold to the gypsies. I think Em wanted to be sure the same thing hadn’t happened here!
ETA: Em and Elf just came back in. She was walking back toward the shore when a wave knocked her down and scraped her knee across some shells. My brilliant husband had the foresight to bring bandaids and neosporin with us to the beach, so she is now all patched up and recuperating on the couch with a small bowl of Goldfish snack crackers.
Beach life.
Sandtastic.
The hotel we stay in when we go to the beach has a little kitchenette, so we cook some of our meals and save a little cash. I made my famous chocolate chip cookie dough at home, froze it, then packed it in a cooler along with some snacks for the trip.
Eating from-scratch chocolate chip cookies while overlooking the ocean. Life is good.
D&D…
…did happen last night. With the usual results.

Aleanghi: Flambe hangs back, out of sight as much as possible, and probably wondering what the hell he does if these two get killed.
I’m on vacation so I probably won’t be able to get an update posted right away. More adventures of Torkal, Palin, and Flambe the bat will be up… eventually!
Greetings from Myrtle Beach!
Ssss…
Green snake, thinner than my pinky, crawling up some rusted metal leaning against the side of our house. It’s not the tree you think it is, little snake, but you can probably still catch some bugs.
I wonder how you got that rough patch on your back.
fireflies
Em was brushing her teeth yesterday evening and looked out the window.
“Fireflies!”
She was so excited. We went out and caught them in our hands, and then got a mason jar. We both poked some holds in the lid with a screwdriver. Em wanted to catch ten, but they kept trying to crawl out of the jar when the lid was opened, so I suggested we just catch three. We settled on four.
Em brought them in and went into her closet and closed the door. The fireflies didn’t want to light up. We opened a window and set them free. We’ll try again tonight, weather permitting, and maybe put a little grass in the bottom of the jar to make them feel more at home.
I told Em how my mother’s birthday is in June, and she always used to look at the fireflies as a happy sign that her birthday was coming.
It was a pleasant evening during a time when things haven’t been going so great for Em. Let’s hope it’s a corner turned.
