New diagnosis
I tend to write funny little things that Em does, but there is sometimes more serious stuff going on, and this seemed a good time to bring it up.
Very long and dry post about potential new Em diagnosis. I will not be offended if you skip this.
foamy dye
Could be worse. Could be raining.
Yesterday, as I was in the drive-through lane to drop off some clothes at Goodwill, my battery died. One of the staff kindly pulled her car around while another hooked up the cables and gave me a jump… which did nothing. The drive-through lane of Goodwill is not exactly the best spot to have a car just die, but the staff was very gracious. So the good things were:
Because it had died that afternoon, we were prepared in the morning (another positive!) when it was time to take Em to school for the possibility that it wouldn’t start. Mr. Tvini stuck around this morning just in case he might have to take Em to school. And sure enough, it didn’t start. After getting Em to school, we tried jumping my car, but it didn’t work. It should have some charge after all the driving around I did yesterday, but nope.
So once things were settled in the morning, I called AAA again. This time, the weather was again a bit cooler and threatening rain, but still a nice day, AND as a bonus I was at my own house. The guy came within about a half hour and towed me up to our local garage. (AAA membership is worth its weight in gold when you really need it.) The rain held off and I walked the 1.2 miles home.
Now the down sides: just this moment, while I was writing this post, the garage called. The battery is utterly bereft of life, so they had to put a new one in just to check the ignition system. The alternator is fine, but the starter solenoid isn’t, so they’ll be replacing that. The total’s going to run about $400.
Also this morning I had an appointment for my semi-annual haircut. Seriously, I only get around to cutting my hair about every four months, so by the time I get it done it REALLY needs to be done. The appointment is in 15 minutes. I’ve called to cancel.
So, unexpected car expenses and continued shagginess. But all in all, it could be worse. It could be raining. Stay with me, universe, stay with me!
ETA: The salon just called – my appointment was actually for Thursday morning. No cancellation fee, no missed appointment. Life’s little victories!
Silver alpaca/silk
I decided not to re-dye the alpaca/silk blend that I dyed a couple of weeks ago. However, it was still bugging me too much to actually knit with myself (which means I’ll still have to either overdye it, sell it, or give it away) so I dyed up some more alpaca/silk yesterday. This is a nice silver with lavender notes. Or a lavender with silver notes. Whatever floats your boat. It’s destined to become a lace scarf so I didn’t want it variegated to the point that it would obscure the pattern. So I think we have a winner. I can work with this.
1878 Warner Bros’ Corset
If the last ad made me glad we’ve moved beyond sanitary napkin belts, this one makes me even more glad we’ve moved beyond cinching our waists. Breastfeeding support does not mean “nursing corset.”
ETA: Note also apostrophe misplacement at the bottom of the ad in “Warner Bro’s.” It’s not just an internet phenomenon!
D&D Week 43: Ninja Monk Pirate Bosun Power Ranger Go Time!
GM Vaschon: When last we left, your party had made it’s way down to the lower decks and located the first mate and bosum in the forward compartment. Palin was having a fit and rolling on the deck where the bosun was about to brain her for being unruly.
Aleanghi isn’t with us, but we’re proceeding anyway.
Palin: There were how many bad guys in the room?
GM Vaschon: There are 3 that you can see. A human firstmate, a half-orc bosun and what appears to be a human crewman on the far end of the room. There is a door to the aft, which you came in from, a ramp leading down in the center of the room and a large porthole on the starboard side of the ship.
GM Vaschon: The half-orc is about to brain Palin.
Veracity: Veracity doesn’t think that having an unconscious Palin is a good survival tactic. She pretends to stumble, being an abused slave and all, and falls into the sailor, hoping to disrupt his aim.
Val: Val stands there and thinks about selling his friends out for his own saftey versus their usefulness to him later.
GM Vaschon: Veracity ‘stumbles’ into the half-orc and the bosun brains her for her efforts.
Veracity: Oh yay.
GM Vaschon: The crewman on the far end begins to move forward to assist the bosun.
Val: Val yells at the two flippant women, “There’ll be hell to pay in the brig for your insolence!”
Palin: Chaaaarlie’s Angels…
Veracity: ((I thought Val was a slave too?))
Val: Val is a slaver
Palin: Val is the brains of the outfit. Take a moment and marvel at that.
Veracity: We’re all so dead.
