The Bear They Call Jayne

Is it Jayne-themed underwear with suspenders?

No!

The bear they call Jayne
Charlotte Browncoat Audrey Hackett is costuming Firefly-themed bears for auction at Charlotte’s Can’t Stop The Serenity screening this weekend. I made the Jayne bear’s hat and will return the bear to her to be outfitted with more cunning gear – including a tiny Vera.

I’ve seen the completed Wash, and it is AWESOME. Fantastic idea, Audrey!

ETA: Usually my yarn is kept in plastic bags. She just happened to find those on the couch while I was getting boxes ready. Most of the hats are not rubbed on cats, I promise.

D&D Week 26 part 1: What’s that? Timmy’s fallen in the well?

June 23rd, 2009 16 comments

When last we met our intrepid adventurers, they had encountered a large gate. Just past the gate was some sort of prison complex, complete with guards and cells. We retreated to the moat area to regroup and think. And I use the word “think” loosely.

This week, we go back to the gate.

Do it right or do it again!

Em and I went to a garden shop today to grab a few herbs. Em also decided she wanted a flower to plant, and I was glad to let her pick one out and buy it for her. That’s a great summer activity for a kid, right? Planting a flower?

Apparently “planting” in Emilese means “supervising Daddy.” Heh.

Today is not just Father’s Day, it’s also my mother’s birthday! It’s not every day you have a special holiday to celebrate TWO wonderful people in your life. So Happy Father’s Day AND Happy Birthday, Mom and Dad! I count myself lucky every day to have such great parents!

caterpillar ride
Steve and Em on the caterpillar ride.

Em and H carousel
Em and me on the carousel. Just to prove I was really there.

We’re back, Steve with a headache and unhealed hand injury, Em with a tummyache and exhaustion, and me with a headache, exhaustion, and unexplained dizziness. Maybe from the last leg of the trip, which I rode as a passenger instead of a driver.

Anyway, we’re home again. We had a great time and are looking forward to next year.

It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game.

posted a comment which I started to respond to, then I realized it was super long and so probably should just be in the post.

She is growing up, isn’t she? I will say that by the time we got to hole 13, she was starting to flag and complain about the heat a bit. She doesn’t do well in high temperatures. She knew she could stop at any point, which we’ve done in years gone by, but she chose to stick it out for the whole course. It had Tinkerbell and Peter Pan, so that probably helped.

Fortunately, it’s much cooler on the beach with the breeze, and after a pause to chill out and to eat some of the muffins we’d brought from home, she and Steve are out there splashing in the waves again. I am also taking a break. I may knit on the Cedar Creek socks I’ve cast on for (here’s Turtlegirl76’s gorgeous pair), or I may take a nap.

Last night as we were looking off the balcony, we spotted another little girl with long brown hair wearing the exact same swimsuit that Em has. We had to go down and look at her. There’s a longstanding joke in my family about how I have a twin sister whom my parents sold to the gypsies. I think Em wanted to be sure the same thing hadn’t happened here!

ETA: Em and Elf just came back in. She was walking back toward the shore when a wave knocked her down and scraped her knee across some shells. My brilliant husband had the foresight to bring bandaids and neosporin with us to the beach, so she is now all patched up and recuperating on the couch with a small bowl of Goldfish snack crackers.

beach cookie
The hotel we stay in when we go to the beach has a little kitchenette, so we cook some of our meals and save a little cash. I made my famous chocolate chip cookie dough at home, froze it, then packed it in a cooler along with some snacks for the trip.

Eating from-scratch chocolate chip cookies while overlooking the ocean. Life is good.
