The day so far:

7am: Tiff with husband.

8am: Take daughter to dentist. Find out she’s got a cavity in a permanent molar, which didn’t come in that long ago. Dentist believes this means she has unusually weak enamel and will need to be very careful throughout her life. Discuss using nitrous oxide to put the whammy on my daughter while filling her cavity. I tell him I need to do more research first.

9am: Run over chipmunk while taking daughter to school.

Lordy, I’m afraid to do anything else today.

ETA:

11am: Say “screw it!” and go to Original Pancake House. Order gigantic Dutch Baby filled with fresh strawberries, accompanied by bacon, skim milk, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. Eat half, take rest home to drown more sorrows in later.

Take THAT, crappy day!

oooh, the gas seriously helps when you’re little.

My “good” dentist chose to use it. My “bad” dentist chose to just drill until it hurt…you so don’t want to know how many cavities my next dentist found after that. And I won’t go into the details of how bad that root canal was…pain didn’t even begin to cover it.

oh no! I suggest you put your PJs back on, climb into bed and just read and drink tea all day. Or watch Firefly.

I have unusually weak enamel as well, and it’s not necessarily as terrible as it may seem; extra care is needed but it’s good to have extra good oral hygene anyways, right?

This sounds like a day for hot chocolate and an old movie!

PS: I had the famous “weak enamel” which did equal several cavities. But it kind of leveled off after adulthood.

I’d recommend going back to bed. Or, if you have to be productive, slump on the couch with chick flicks and Jayne hats. You have earned the right to not have to do anything else.

Hope your day gets better. It has to, right?

Thanks for the input! Neither my husband nor I have any cavities, so this is new ground for us. I think I had nitrous when I had my wisdom teeth pulled, but that’s kind of a blur.

Which, come to think of it, is kind of a good endorsement.

Did he mention putting a sealant on her teeth as well? I had my kids teeth sealed and it helped TONS.

Also … for someone who had nothing but dry raisin toast for breakfast … your menu is killing me. ::whimpers:: I would do just about anything for strawberries right about now.

I usually do my best to HIDE this particular body part, but I thought you might like to see the result of a poorly cared for mouth full of weak enameled teeth. Now the dentist assures me that I couldn’t have prevented the initial damage to my teeth, but in all honesty, I should have had them repaired years ago. I just keep finding excuses to do other things with my money. The plan is to veneer about 80% of my mouth. This was actually adult onset, they didn’t begin the real decay until I was in my 20s.

Anyhow, it’s not pretty so you are warned: http://pics.livejournal.com/jadelynx/pic/00016cxt/

My son had two cavities filled when we still lived in Michigan, and to this day he swears he has no fillings. Yay, nitrous! Also, sealants on the molars are a godsend. It’s easy and doesn’t take long and they just paint it on.

If your daughter has trouble holding still for long periods of time…oh yeah, it’s helpful.
