Felted swatch

Because we get a fair number of questions about how much an item felts vertically and horizontally, I thought I’d post up a swatch that I did this morning preparatory to doing a felted bag for my kid’s kindergarten teacher.

This is Lamb’s Pride worsted in Lotus Pink and Amethyst, knitted on #11 needles, 30 rows and 20 stitches. In the middle, it is paired with Berroco Sizzle and taken in by a stitch on each side, since adding the novelty yarn causes the swatch to bow out when it’s done. So for the 10 stitches in the middle with the Sizzle, it’s only 18 stitches wide.

In the below felted swatch, there is no bulge in the novelty yarn part because it has been accounted for by knitting fewer stitches. Also, you can see that a felted swatch will shrink much more lengthwise than widthwise.

Hope this helps someone, and have a great day!

ETA: Okay, that was totally supposed to be on the knitting community page. Sigh. I gotta go lie down again.

It was still neat for us non-knitters to see!
