Voila! My scar!
Em: Do you know what my lifetime dream is?
Me: No, what?
Em: To have my appendix out!
Last week it was to be the first woman president. I guess she can do both.

I’m curious to know WHY she wants her appendix out. Did someone at her school get one removed and talked about it?
Your Emily cracks me up! I see her one day writing for Saturday Night Live!

In the book Madeline the heroine has to be rushed to the hospital to have her appendix out. The other little girls from her boarding school go and visit her as she recuperates at the hospital.
“Tiptoeing with solemn face,
with some flowers and a vase,
in they walked and then said, “Ahhh,”
when they saw the toys and candy
and the dollhouse from Papa.
Buyt the biggest surprise by far —
on her stomach
was a scar!“
The little girls go home and decide they want their appendixes out too because it looks like so much fun. Em likes the excitement of Madeline being rushed out in the middle of the night in an ambulance, plus all the toys and the attention. So she wants to be just like Madeline.
She loves books that rhyme, and Madeline is a favorite – as it has been for kids since 1939. Highly recommended!

Hmm. My oldest asked when she was having her tonsils out today.

Put her to bed and give her some ice cream. Close enough.

I must say from experience that it’s not the best of times. Though in the long run probably easier on a body than being president!

Heh. I also wanted to be the first woman president.
Kind of depressing to think that in the 30 years between then and now, it still hasn’t happened. Maybe by the time my granddaughter wants to run!
