Spam, Spam, Spam, Jayne, Spam, Spam… CRAP!
Last night at around 7:30pm I was deleting a bunch of spam from my inbox. I was going too fast, and just as I hit DELETE on one, I saw the word “Jayne” in the body of the one line e-mail.
I almost never delete anything by accident, but that’s why God made trashcans, so you can fish the e-mail back out again. Except that apparently after all the computer woes of this month, when we got my mail server set up again, the trash was never configured properly. All the e-mails I’ve deleted since Nov 11th haven’t gone to the trash, they’ve just been immediately deleted.
In spite of my husband’s best efforts, the e-mail was unrecoverable. So whatever somebody wanted to tell me about Jayne hats at 7:30 last night is gone forever. One line means it was probably “Are you still making the Jayne hats and how long would it take to get one?” Alas, the poor sap will never know.
Crud.
Aw man! Instantly trashed! Noooo!

I’m guessing that since you GM, you are on a PC.
I HIGHLY recommend Mozilla’s Thunderbird. Their junk mail set up makes it easy to keep it out of your inbox, but not run the risk of deleting it. You start of with it not dumping things into a spam folder and you do it by hand to train it. Then after a while you start having it move things for you. You continue to train it as things come in by hitting the “junk” button on the things that are, and it continues to learn. But the nice thing is, if you hit “junk”, it just moves it to another folder and you can retrieve anything that isn’t junk. Then every once in a while (I do it once a day) you go in and delete what’s in the junk folder.

Well, I used to use the Wizard, but that only runs under OS9 and when I had to rebuild the computer, I lost my OS9 settings. I haven’t been able to figure out what the hell I did before to set up “Classic” as an option for my Mac to run under sometimes. When I try to use Classic/OS9 applications my Mac basically laughs at me. I can’t even figure out where the hell on Mac to download OS9 as a non-native OS.
So for the moment, I’m using Avalon. This is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING because I can only scroll back until something new pops up in the main window, and then I am slammed back down to the bottom of my screen. I’m sure you can imagine the joy that brings when I need to check something someone said 50 lines ago while I’m in a busy room. Like, I don’t know, a freaking WEDDING RECEPTION. It’s like this:
Player says, “Tvini, can you get an invitation to Jane Doe?”
Joe Blow and his buddy stuff 80 bottles of absinthe in their backpacks.
I scroll up to see what Player asked, and every time Joe Blow stuffs another bottle in his backpack I’m at the bottom again, never seeing what the first player typed. Repeat times 100.
I can still do it, because hey, I’m just that good, but I really want to get my Wizard up and running again. Life would be so much simpler.
